rag quilts
Rag quilts are quilt as you go because you sew both sides of the quilt together at the same time. The seams are left unfinished on one of the sides and clipped so that when washed they form a fuzzy, raggy fringe where the blocks are joined. These can be made with or without batting. If you are using a heavy fabric like denim you would usually skip the batting. You can also substitute osnaberg or double napped flannelette for batting and incorporate them into the 'fringe'. These are beginner easy because crooked seams and mismatched corners are hidden under the 'fringe'.
